Too Much Yarn

Dishclothing

I have finished one Kalajoki sock, and finishing up clue 4 of the Hazel Knits Mystery Sock. The final clue will be released tomorrow. I should start Kalajoki in  case I have to stand in line on Black Friday...  Also, I must have tinked back 40+ rows on my sweater.  I try to knit 2 rows per day but I'm not up to where I started to tink back yet.

Other than that, I've been obsessed with knitting dishcloths for gifts this year. So first, I did the only pattern I can memorize:

I felt it was a bit tight, so I switched from size 7 needles to size 8:

Much better... but, still missing something.. kinda boring... now, won't it be nice to also make a scrubbie to go along with it?  I tried these 2 from tulle:

Nah... instead of crocheting in the round, I was spiraling.. and it was too thin, I thought.  So I made the rectangle one by doubling up.. much stiffer.  Well, how about if I combined the scrubbie and dishcloth together?

Well, apparently, the tulle I bought from Michael's was a bit soft... so I tried some from Joann's.

I still don't like the shape...

Then, I went to Knit Night and Cathy was knitting this BallBand Dishcloth.  I tried the pattern and I was hooked - not crochet-hooked.

I wanted to try different combination - instead of just 2 solid... afterall, look at the all the yarn I have - equivalent to the cost of 1 skein of Bugga!

So I've sinced knitted these:

don't worry... I will weave in the ends before I package it up as a gift.  I've now working on a pink one.  I hope to make all different ones... Doing dishes could be a chore... so why not have something bright to cheer you up??

And so, that's what I've been doing... I have lots to bake to bring to my sister-in-law's for Thanksgiving Dinner.  I wish you a happy weekend and don't get hurt while shopping...

 

Progress?

One of my three projects that I worked on this week is going the right direction.

1. Swaeater. Found an error I can't live with. Frogging about 15 rows.

2. Hazel Knits mystery sock may be too big. May need to start over with smaller needles. Color is Heirloom.



3. Going well... Kalajoki. Perfect marriage of pattern and yarn.

Sweater-ing

Remember I started this sweater?

Yes, that and the mitered squares blanket were all I knitted this week.  Until November started - i.e. today, I cast on a new sock.  Actually, I would have cast on another sock, but I don't have the yarn wound.  OK... the sweater...  This is where I'm at:

It is a very interesting construction and so far, I've not been bored.  You start a panel of 48 stitches and knit about 36 rows or so - put on stitch holder.  I used circular with interchangeable needles so I left the stitches on the cable.  Then, pick up the stitches from original cast on and new 36 rows or so.  Then, you pick up the one long side of the 72 rows (this will be the back) and then, work the original 48 stitches.  At this point, we're increasing 10 stitches per row for the front, sleeves, and back.  I'm using my 2nd skein of yarn (out of 10!).

I had some friends over for a mini retreat (last minute cancellation for a weekend knitting retreat) so we didn't have plans for the weekend... And I asked their advice on this other sweater, started in January 2008.  Won't it be nice if I can finish it in January, 2014?  Their advice is I just have to finish another inch or so of the sweater.  Then, I can pick up stitches and work the band from the bottom left hand corner to around the right hand corner and knit a rib for about 12 rows.  Also have to put a button hole in.  So this is the sweater,Mr. Greenjeans

I was supposed to start the ribbing about 2 inches below the lifeline (below armhole), but because I put the sweater away, I didn't realize that I'd started it too late... anyhoo... that's just how it will be.  I think I still have 1 skein of this yarn left.  To tell you the truth, it is Maria's Mr. Greenjeans that had tempted me to make one of the same color:

And she has the perfect button for it, too!

I have a special button some place for this... if only I know where I put it 5 years ago!

OK ... here's the sock I cast on. Kalajoki in a yarn I've not used before... Cephalopod Yarns Traveller, in the color Hobart, IN.

This is after 1.5 hours.  So this should be a quick knit.  Have a nice weekend!  Don't eat too much leftover candy!
