Too Much Yarn

Weaving in ends

I love weaving in ends! But only for my Mitered Square Blanket. I did try to weave the ends in while starting a new square and I just didn't like the look of it at the back... Anyway, I took some time to weave in the ends. I've been quite obsessed with this blanket lately... maybe it's because I started on the Hexagon blanket and was afraid I'm not putting enough time into this one. Well, in September alone, I've knitted over 20 squares. I started a journal in June, recording which square I knitted - yarn, color, and a tally of how many squares I've knitted.

 

Yep! 111 squares so far. I'm glad that I can actually fold it up and it's starting to feel like a blanket instead of a scarf!

I'm off to go to my local yarn shop as they reveal some news about Rowan yarn. Yvonne and I decided to see what the commotion is about. And here are the bits and pieces left after the ends were woven in:

 

Works in Progress

Well, things didn't go as planned... i.e. I did not cast on any second socks. I was very close to casting on another new sock, but my resistance won! Instead, there were these distractions. Blanke I and Blankie II. But I did finish clue 2 of the Mystery Sock and fnished the gusset of Clue 3. However, Clue 3 ends at the toe, so I still have some catch-up to do. The mystery took a turn. Last week, I showed you the two sides of the Mystery Sock. Well, there were some rearranging of stitches and now, it now looks like this: (since only have 1 sock, I had to take the photos on two different feet!)

Then, I did move a little on my shawl... but still on the boring garter panel:

Then, the Beekeepers's Quilt grew by 5 more hexagons at 12 now: (I think I need 1200 to finish! But maybe I don't need to make one for a King-sized bed)

The other Blankie is now at 97 squares. I have decided on the width so technically, once I knit the last square on the right, I should just be moving upwards. This is wide enough to cover a Full size bed - just at the top, it won't be wide enough to go over the sides of the bed. So it will be more like a bedspread... - or maybe just a blanket when watching TV! The weather has turned cold and it's comforting to enlarge the blanket.

I love Fall!

Although Fall hasn't officially started, we woke up with temperatures in the 50's this morning. YAY! I can wear my hand-knitted socks! Going back to work last week (short week after the Labor Day weekend) was nasty! I clocked in with 8 hours of overtime - which I don't get paid for, as I'm salaried. But I did manage some knitting time. I finished the Cookie A's Daphne Sock - sock #1, that is... I really like knitting and wearing it. By the way, I did not decrease the gusset to 28 stitches. I decreased it to 32 stitches to match the foot - I was knitting the 60-stitch size.

And also the Hazel Knits Mystery Sock. Again, sock #1 through Clue 2.

Also, I am now up to 7 hexagons for my Beekeeper's Quilt!

This week, I plan to cast on second socks for the Mystery and Daphne and maybe a few more hexagons. This blanket will be made of Bugga and Skinny Bugga's only. So if you have any Bugga/Skinny Buggas that you have no use for, send them my way!

A new sock blanket!

After having 10 days off work (including the weekends and Labor Day yesterday), I'll have to head back to work today.  Everyone is out of the house by 7 a.m. and I have the house to myself to do anything I want with knitting and yarn!  I have to wind up some yarn for the mini swaps.  Yes, I've gotten myself into some trouble.  I got sucked into making another sock yarn blanket.  This time, it's the Beekeeper's Quilt.  I found this blanket about a month ago, but just resisted and resisted. There is no good reason to start another blanket when I'm not even at 100 squares with my mitered square blanket.  Until... I found a good reason!  And that is... I have 2 children.  I will need 2 blankets - one for each when I'm gone because who wants to keep my socks?  And my son won't appreaciate my shawls...or sweaters - oh wait, I have no completed sweaters yet.  No, just kidding!  My reasoning is that I wanted to keep my mitered square blanket consisting of sock yarn that I'd used on my projects.  But I participated in some swaps and I ended up with about 66 mini skeins of Bugga (90%) and others are other MCNs.  I'm joining two more swaps so I should have plenty to start with.  This is what the quilt looks like:

The differences between my blanket and hers is that I'm going to leave mine unstuffed.  The individual hexgaon has been called hexipuff.  Mine is a hexiflat (some came out with that name).  Over the weekend, I mananged to just take some time away from other projects and came out with 3 flats.  I'm not doing a good job with seaming them together.  So I've ripped them apart.  This was before ripping:

August 2011 Destash

I recently was missing some yarn (what a surprise!) and couldn't find it on my stash page... and then, I found it on a blog post that I had destashed the yarn.  So if you don't mind, I'm using my blog to also record what I sent off.  I've been destashing in the past month.  Some were gifts, some were simply sold for cold, hard, cash!  Going forward, I'm going to write one post to list all the yarn I destashed in the previous month.  That way, you can skip reading if you don't care what yarn I got rid off.  I'll be sure that I only talk about the yarn I destashed!

Don't ask me why I buy and sell. I guess I have this craving of shopping and then, when the yarn is in my hands, I wasn't that excited... nah... I just have too much.  People just sent me messages if I'm willing to part with some yarn in my stash and depending on my mood, I just say yes or no.

and so the cast-on begins...

I first cast on the Cookie A Sock Club pattern, Daphne, with Bugga in Breyer's Jewel Scarab.  It was a rather quick knit.  After 2 days, I've managed half the leg (keep in mind that in the past 2 days, I've also cast on a shawl and worked a few squares on the blankie).

The shawl (Romi's Kleio) starts with 277 stitches, but it's all garter stitches... boring, but doable...  I've probably knitted 8 or 10 rows...  This is knitted in Bugga in Painted Damsel.

Also received 2 shipments in the last 2 days. The first is the last of my Woolgirl pre-paid kits.  It's from the Victorian Writer's August kit called Mrs. Dalloway.  Yarn is Malabrigo Lace.  Pattern by Anne Hanson.

The project bag is really cute.  I've already used it!

Next is the Twisted Socks are for Suckers Shawlette club.  This is the September shipment.  Yarn is Hazel Knits Artisan in Portabello and the pattern is  by Chick Sticks Knits (Melissa Goodale).

In other news, my son is back for the long weekend from college.  So good to see him.  Good news - he didn't bring dirty laundry home!  He'd better not!  There's a washer/dryer on each floor of his dorm.  And using the machines are free of charge.  He just has to provide the detergent.  And the laundry room is right next door to his dorm.  So he scored a point for not bringing laundry home!

It's All Over!

I'm so relieved August is over!  I finished 7 pairs of socks.  This is pair #7 - a sock I started in November, 2008!!

They are Leyburn Socks with Socks That Rock Mediumweight in Holidazed - a Rockin' Sock Club yarn.  Here are my new socks!

Well, the dark gray ones are John's.  But I'm not going to give them to him until he asked for it.  If I'm lucky, it could be my Christmas gift to him.

So, what should I knit next?  Well, there will be socks - but casting on brand new socks.  No second socks for a while... So the first pair I'm going to cast on is Cookie A's latest club pattern, Daphne in Bugga - Breyer's Jewel Scarab (yellowish green).  Then, I want to knit a Mystery Sock on the Hazel Knits group.  I'm going to try Entice for the first time in the color Aquarius, and then, I'm going to cast on a shawl by Romi, who just released the Muse #1 pattern yesterday!  This is how the shawl looks like:

I decided to use Bugga in Painted Damsel for the garter section.  Then, there are 3 choices I'm thinking of at the moment:  1.  Pandoras Sphinx Caterpillar.  2.  Sea Star.  3.  Potato Leafhopper. 

The Potato Leafhopper was not an original choice. I was winding yarn and was about to chop this up into mini skeins for a swap.   But it sat nicely next to the Painted Damsel and a light bulb came on.  I contacted the Swap Mom immediately and said I need to keep it for a while.  I'm going to knit the garter section first and then, decided what color I'm in the mood for..   So for now, these babies are waiting for me:

For SKA'ers...  I haven't decided if I'm going to knit the MOCK.  Because, it looks amazingly like the Debi socks I designed for the 2010 DIY.  These are Debi socks (named after our fearless leader, Debi FluffyknitterDeb).
